Meet The Rogues — Jason J. Nugent
Author Jason J. Nugent
Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I moved to Southern Illinois back in my junior year of high school. I met my wife here and we’ve been here ever since. We have one son who just graduated high school and two cats and two dogs.
I went to college for History, earning a Master’s Degree in Early Medieval History. I’ve wanted to write a fantasy novel for a long time and have finally done so with my latest series.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I can recall playing with a typewriter at my grandma’s when I was young. I loved how the black letters on the white paper could make something real. It wasn’t until college that I had the urge to really try writing, but studies and life were more important at the time.
About 8 years ago, I attempted NaNoWriMo and that gave me the urge to really want to write. I’ve been at it since.
Have events or people in your life ever inspired scenes or characters in any of your books?
All the time! Several of my horror novels (under a pen name) are set in the small town I live in. I use a different name, but I could easily take you on a book tour showing all the places I’ve referenced!
What are you currently working on?
I’m working on a co-authored urban fantasy trilogy with thriller author Ray Wenck. I’m also in the early stages of book three of my fantasy series and I’m starting work on my next horror novel. I have a couple short stories I’d like to write as well.
Do you have a day job, or are you a full-time writer? What is your day job? Has it helped your writing?
I work in sales for a screen-printing/embroidery/promotional products company. It doesn’t really help my writing, but it does help when I go to live book events to talk to potential readers. I don’t mind talking with strangers and trying to get them interested in my books.
What kind of books do you read in your free time?
I alternate between horror, fantasy, and scifi. I also like to read a lot of non-fiction to help with improving my craft and marketing my books.
Blood is shed and the curse begins.
A thousand years before the events of The Blood Stone, a dark ritual between man and dragon binds the two races together.
In a bid to save her father, the young dragon Etain reluctantly joins with a novice from the Order of Eschar to create a power she doesn’t understand.
Curse of the Drakku: Origins is a prequel novella set within the world of a new fantasy series from author Jason J. Nugent.
